Upper cervical chiropractic is a subspecialty within the chiropractic profession. The practice focuses on aligning the upper neck with a precise adjusting technique, guided by imaging findings. The goal of treatment is to restore neurological and biomechanical integrity of the upper neck, resulting in improved function and reduced symptoms.

The practice of upper cervical chiropractic is very safe. During the procedure, there is no twisting, cracking, popping, or heavy force applied to the neck. The adjustment, or correction, is administered with an instrument that applies about 3lbs of force. Before any treatment is rendered, a full examination and 3D imaging are reviewed to verify that this care will be safe for you.

“Regular” chiropractic adjusting, or “spinal manipulation therapy,” relies on increasing spinal motion by using high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) impulses to overcome spinal fixations. Twisting, cracking, or popping of the spine typically occurs. On the other hand, upper cervical chiropractic care is different due to utilizing imaging findings to guide where and how to apply the treatment, and using low force with no twisting, cracking, or popping.
